Tom Aspinall Vows Not To Make Common Mistake Against Marcin Tybura At UFC London

After a lengthy recovery process, highly touted heavyweight contender Tom Aspinall is set to resume his surge to the top this summer at UFC London.

Aspinall’s return on July 22 will come almost a year on from a disastrous last outing, which saw a headliner against Curtis Blaydes end in just 15 seconds after the Englishman suffered a serious knee injury.

Now, Aspinall is pursuing redemption by “returning to the scene of the crime,” as he has put it.

For the third consecutive time in his career, the Manchester native will headline a UFC card in England’s capital. Having defeated Alexander Volkov via submission and suffered an injury-caused TKO loss to Blaydes, Aspinall will look to return to a positive main event record at the expense of Marcin Tybura.

And while many expect him to do just that, Aspinall isn’t taking his Polish counterpart lightly…

Aspinall Won’t ‘Look Past’ Tybura Test

During a recent interview with The Mac Life’s Oscar Willis, Aspinall looked ahead to his long-awaited return to action and the man with whom he’ll share the cage for it.

Although never regarded as a legitimate title contender in the division by most, Tybura has accumulated a number of notable wins inside the Octagon. That includes stalling the rise of then-undefeated and highly touted prospect Alexandr Romanov last August.

For Aspinall, “Tybur” has found success owing to his opponents’ habit of underestimating his talents. The British heavyweight has insisted that he won’t make the same mistake.

“I’m just going there to win… I think that he’s won a lot of his fights by people looking past him,” Aspinall said. “I’m treating him — ’cause at this point, he’s the best opponent that I’ve ever fought. He’s a top-10 heavyweight. These guys are dangerous… A lot of the people have lost to him because they look past him.

“He’s kind of not got the best body ever. He’s kind of (got a) lumbering style. He’s not overly flash or anything like that. So I think a lot of people just think, ‘I’m just gonna go in there and run through him,'” Aspinall continued. “I’m showing him all the respect. I am living perfectly right now, inside and outside the gym, to put on the best performance of my life.”

While Tybura will be searching for a major upset win that would no doubt ascend him into territory that he’s yet to charter in the weight class, Aspinall is looking to remind the division of his presence and potential with a dominant display inside The O2.
