Jared Cannonier Says He 'Loved' Israel Adesanya's Post-Fight Revenge Moment Against Alex Pereira's Kid

Some people were unhappy with the way Israel Adesanya celebrated his UFC 281 win over Alex Pereira. However, Jared Cannonier completely understood.

Looking to get back into title contention, Cannonier was able to to score a major win over Sean Strickland in December, after coming up short against Adesanya last July. However, this fight with Adesanya was the last time “The Last Stylebender” defended his title before his kickboxing rival, Pereira, stole the belt with a third combat sports victory over the City Kickboxing fighter.

Jared Cannonier Loved Israel Adesanya’s Post-Fight Shenanigans

Israel Adesanya and Alex Pereira would fight for a fourth time at UFC 287, but this time things would go differently, as Adesanya scored the big knockout win to reclaim his belt. He followed this up by taunting Pereira’s son, getting revenge on the child who mocked him 6 years prior, and causing mixed reactions from fans.

That said, Jared Cannonier did not have a problem with the post-fight celebration, and even understood where Adesanya was coming from. He explained in an interview with Helen Yee, that he was impressed with how Adesanya was able to get the validating victory, and said that if he were in the same shoes as the champ, he would have mocked Pereira’s child in the same way.

“Both of those guys are very effective fighters, and Izzy finished him this time, the same way he almost finished him the first time, in the first round of their first (UFC) fight. I think he made some really good adjustments in there, really prepared for Pereira to be putting the heat on him, and he came out on top. It was a beautiful performance. It was a beautiful counter that he hit him with,” Cannonier said. “It was fun to watch happen. I was happy for him, he did well. I liked his post fight interview. I loved the little get-back he got at Alex’s kid. I thought that was perfect. I would’ve done something similar, if not the same thing. I thought that was cool. It was a classic Stylebender performance.”

Jared Cannonier is hopeful to get another crack at Israel Adesanya, if he is able to get by Marvin Vettori in their main event matchup on June 17th. It will be interesting to see how a rematch between the two plays out, if it comes to fruition.
